Cytec is engaged in ongoing research to develop cleaner modes of alternative energy. Wind energy continues to be the cleanest, most cost-effective alternative energy source available. As a result, Cytec's current research efforts involve the development of wind turbines to generate power. The most recent initiative involves working with the non-profit humanitarian organization
REACH (Reconstruction Efforts Aiding Children without Homes). The mutual goals of Cytec and REACH are to provide power to impoverished homes in Haiti. The turbines will be used to generate electricity for small LED lamps which will provide illumination for school children who live in homes without electricity. Also the turbines can be used to provide enough electricity to charge a small device such as a cell phone, so that lines of communication are always available. Cytec personnel are making large strides towards providing green, renewable sources of energy and to aid in humanitarian efforts.
